Whānau Hui
Once a year we hold a whānau hui. These hui are of special importance to our Māori whānau but are open to anyone wishing to attend. At these hui we report back on Māori student achievement, development of Te Reo Māori and tikanga at our school and any other relevant issues.
In 2017 we wanted to collect some student voice from our Māori students and also from some of our non-Māori students who show a passion for learning about Te Reo Māori and tikanga. Below you can either read the questions we asked our students and read their responses or you can also watch videos of our students responding to the questions.
What makes you feel good about being Māori at Karoro School?

Have you had any negative experiences around being Māori? Is there anything about being Māori that makes you sad?

In what ways do you get to celebrate and learn about Māori culture and language at school?

What do you like about being Māori, what is cool about being Māori?

How is Māori culture celebrated and used in your home?

What would you like to be able to do at school?

Please note that Group Toru are a group of non-Māori students that we interviewed as they have shown a high interest in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga and so we wanted to get their input too. The questions for them were around why they like learning Te Reo Māori, why they think it is important and what they would like to do more of:
Part 1: Do you like learning Te Reo Māori at school and why?

Part 2: Do you like learning Te Reo Māori at school and why?
